ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer and Chatham University played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at Spring Run Stadium.
Brant Aughenbaugh (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) scored his second goal of the season for Penn State Altoona (3-6-1), while Jinkwon Song (Uiwang, Korea/McLean) recorded his second assist in as many games.
Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made eight saves in goal for the Lions.
After the Lions missed on a penalty shot opportunity at 10:05, it was Chatham (3-4-1) who drew first blood at the 41-minute mark, when Leandro Nasso dribbled into the middle of the field and fired a shot top shelf from 30 yards out to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage.
Penn State Altoona answered shortly after halftime to tie the score. Song feathered a pass into the box from the left side, and it was taken by Aughenbaugh, who raced past his defender and beat the keeper to his left at 49:20 to make it 1-1.
That score held up through the remainder of regulation, and the game went into overtime.
There were few offensive chances for either team in the extra time. Penn State Altoona had the lone shot attempt in the first overtime, while Chatham put the lone shot of the second overtime period on goal within the final minute of play, resulting in a save by Yaw.
Penn State Altoona finished the night by leading Chatham in shot attempts by a 16-15 margin, while the Cougars posted advantages of 9-5 and 8-5 in shots on goal and corner kicks, respectively.
Aughenbaugh finished the game with a team-high two shots on goal. Jon Kadoch (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) tied for the game-high in shot attempts with four, and Jordan Francis (East Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame East Stroudsburg) had three shot attempts.
Penn State Altoona men's soccer resumes its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule this Saturday, September 28, when the Lions will hit the road to face new conference opponent Alfred State College in a 2:00 p.m. game.
