ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis program announced its 2018 schedule on Thursday.
The Lady Lions' fall schedule consists of 13 matches, including nine home dates. The team's home matches will be played on the brand new Adler Tennis Courts, which were constructed during the final phase of Penn State Altoona's Adler Athletic Complex Expansion and Renovation project.
Penn State Altoona's 2018 season opens with a run of five consecutive home matches. The Lady Lions start their schedule on Friday, August 31 when they host non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College at 4:00 p.m. The next day, Saturday, September 1, the team hosts non-conference foe Geneva College for an 11:00 a.m. match. Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play starts the following weekend, with Penn State Altoona hosting D'Youville College on Saturday, September 8 and Medaille College on Sunday, September 9 in 1:00 p.m. matches. The squad's season-opening homestand wraps up on Saturday, September 15 with a 1:00 p.m. match against non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College.
After that, the Lady Lions play three consecutive AMCC opponents. The team hits the road for the first time on Sunday, September 16, when it faces off against Pitt-Greensburg at 12:00 p.m. Penn State Altoona returns home for a Friday, September 21 match at 3:30 p.m. against Franciscan University, then it travels the next day, Saturday, September 22, to play Penn State Behrend at 1:00 p.m.
Penn State Altoona ventures back into non-conference play on Saturday, September 29, when the team travels to play Frostburg State University at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Lions finish the month of September with a local rivalry match against AMCC opponent Mount Aloysius College, which will occur on Sunday, September 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the Adler Courts.
The Lady Lions' regular season concludes with a trio of matches in October. On Saturday, October 6, Penn State Altoona hosts AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford at 1:00 p.m. before traveling to play conference foe La Roche College on Sunday, October 7 at 12:00 p.m. The squad's final regular season match is slated for Saturday, October 13 at home against Division II opponent California University (Pa.) at 11:00 a.m. in Altoona.
