Warriors Fight Past Lady Lions 3-0

ALTOONA, Pa. – Lycoming College prevailed in Thursday evening's non-conference women's volleyball match in the Adler Auxiliary Gym, defeating Penn State Altoona 3-0.

Lycoming (15-11) swept the match by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-15.

Lauren Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) totaled a match-high five block assists for Penn State Altoona (6-10) while adding six kills. Jenna Bauer (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) posted team-highs with 11 kills and nine digs while tallying four block assists.

Sara Russo (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) recorded four kills and two block assists, and Lydia Mock (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) had three kills and six digs.

Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) put up a team-high 15 assists while adding six digs, and Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA/State College) tallied 12 assists and six digs.

Lexie Dorcon (Berlin, PA/Berlin Brothersvalley) totaled eight digs, and Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) finished with two block assists.

Penn State Altoona jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set before ultimately relinquishing its advantage. Lycoming rallied from its early deficit to build a 20-12 lead midway through the set, but the Lady Lions used a 6-0 run to close the gap to 20-18. But, leading 21-19, the Warriors put three straight points on the board to close out the match's opening set.

The second set score was close until the middle stages, when Lycoming pulled away. Back-to-back kills from Mock and Bauer helped Penn State Altoona to a 13-12 lead, but Lycoming went on a 7-0 run to establish a 19-13 advantage. Diller's kill later in the set helped narrow her team's deficit to four points, 23-19, but Lycoming used an attack error and service ace to score the next two points.

Lycoming controlled the third set from the outset, getting out to a 6-2 lead. The Warriors boosted their lead to 10 points, 20-10, and went on to win 25-15 to take the match in three sets.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball will look to get back on track this weekend, when the Lady Lions will host an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference quad match in the Adler Gym on Saturday, October 19. That day, Penn State Altoona will face conference foes D'Youville College (10:00 a.m.) and Hilbert College (4:00 p.m.).
