Lions Finish 18th at Lejeune Tourney

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team wrapped up its weekend in the 53rd Annual Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Championship on Sunday, playing in the third and final day of the tournament co-hosted by the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Oglethorpe University at the Paradise Point Golf Courses.

Penn State Altoona shot 313 in Sunday's round on the par 72 Gold Course, producing a three-round score of 922 to finish in 18th place out of 24 teams. Drew University finished atop the team leaderboard, jumping into first place with a three-day score of 865. Bridgewater College came in second place with 867, and Dickinson College placed third with 870.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) and Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) were the Lions' top finishers in the tournament, as both golfers scored 223 across three days to tie for 35th place out of 120 individuals. Included in Nusbaum's score was his even-par 72 in Sunday's round, and Riscica carded an 80 on Sunday.

Joey Sabol (State College, PA/State College) tied for 97th place individually, shooting 80 on Sunday and totaling 238 shots in three rounds. Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) shot 81 in day three and compiled a total score of 240 to place 103rd overall. Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) tied for 107th place, shooting 81 on Sunday to score 243 for the tournament.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's golf will travel for its next tournament, as the Lions will head to Pittsford, N.Y., to take part in the Fred Kravetz Invitational. The two-day event, hosted by the University of Rochester at the Locust Hill and Oak Hill Country Clubs, tees off Friday, April 17.
