Nusbaum Matches Own Record, Lions End Season with Senior Day Win

ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's golf team competed in their final tournament of the 2025-26 season, when the Lions hosted the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational at the Sinking Valley Country Club. 

At the tournament, Penn State Altoona recognized senior Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) for his contributions to the program.  

In the tournament, Nusbaum shot 67, which tied his own program record. It is the fourth time he has shot 67.  

Penn State Altoona competed with its 'A', 'B', and 'C' teams in the tournament.  

The 'A' team shot 290 to finish in first place. Their score of 290 was the lowest team round of the season for the men's team.  

The 'B' team shot 300 to place third, and the 'C' team shot 323 to place seventh.  

Penn College placed second with a score of 297, while Pitt-Bradford placed fourth with a score of 307.  

Nusbaum golfed for the 'A' team and had the Lions' overall low round, shooting 5-below par on the par 72 course to place first out of 51 golfers.  

Also golfing for the 'A' team were Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle), who hit matching scores of 74 to tie for eighth. Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) placed 11th after carding a 75. Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) rounded out the 'A' team, and shooting 78 to place 18th. 

For the 'B' team, Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) shot 1-over par, tying for fifth. Arthur Franciosa Jr. (Purchase, NY/Harrison) tied for eighth after shooting 74. Austin Duelley (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) carded a 76 to tie for 13th. Ethan Ellis (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) carded 77 to tie for 16th. Joey Sabol (State College, PA/State College) completed the 'B' team and shot 79 to tie for 20th 

Penn State Altoona had four golfers competing for the 'C' team. Max Samangy (Crafton, PA/Carlynton) had the low round for the 'C' team, finishing the day with a 5-over par 77 to tie for 16th individually. Stephen Phillips (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha Catholic) tied for 20th after shooting 79. Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) shot 81 to tie for 28th. Roger Royer (Williamsburg, PA/Williamsburg Community) shot 86 to tie for 42nd. 

Penn State Altoona men's golf competed in 14 events and a total of 26 rounds during the 2025-26 season. The team's 2026-27 schedule will be announced this summer.
