Men’s Soccer Blanked 6-0 at Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer lost 6-0 to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mount Aloysius College on Wednesday night at the Walker Athletic Complex.

Mount Aloysius (10-1-1, 4-0 AMCC) maintained the top spot in the AMCC standings with its win. The Mounties scored four first half goals before adding two in the second half. Jonathan Fernandez and Erik Johansson finished with two goals each, while Pau Aran recorded three assists.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made 12 saves in goal for Penn State Altoona (1-9, 1-3 AMCC), the third-most saves in a single game in men's soccer program history.

Mount Aloysius scored its first goal at 9:30, when Joshua Christie's low cross was one-timed into the goal by Ludvig Hegdal. The Mounties doubled their lead at 14:02, when James Maddison sent a long ball overtop the defense that was touched into the net by Christopher Moses.

Mount Aloysius increased its lead to 4-0 later in the first half, scoring two goals in the span of 1:06. Aran set up both goals, with Fernandez scoring on a one-time finish at 24:51 and Johansson finding the back of the net on a header shot at 25:57.

Fernandez netted his second goal of the night at 45:35. Aran chipped a pass over the keeper that was headed into the goal by Fernandez, increasing the home team's lead to 5-0. Johansson upped the Mounties' advantage to 6-0 at 72:53, taking a pass from Anton Hoshovsky and placing a shot inside the goal post.

Mount Aloysius finished the game with a 31-8 lead over Penn State Altoona in shots, including leading shots on goal by an 18-5 margin. The Mounties also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Lions soccer will look to snap its three-game skid on Sunday, October 7, when it hits the road to play AMCC opponent Medaille College for a contest starting at 4:15 p.m.
