Men's Soccer Suffers Loss in Season Opener

ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team started its 2025 season with a loss, falling 3-0 to McDaniel at Spring Run Stadium. 

The Lions would face a lot of pressure early in the match, with McDaniel firing off four shots in the first ten minutes. The Green Terror would break through in the 14th minute, scoring to make it 1-0. McDaniel would add a second in the 21st minute to make it 2-0. Meanwhile, the Lions were held to only one shot in the first half.  

It would get worse in the second half as McDaniel would add a third goal in the 70th minute to make it 3-0.

It was a physical game, with 23 fouls and 6 yellow cards handed out. In the 74th minute, Ethan Firth (York, PA/Central York) would get sent off for Lions, reducing the team to 10 players for the remainder of the match. 

Tyler Tardiff (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) made 6 saves at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona. Colin Murphy (State College, PA/State College) had the lone shot attempt for the Lions. 

Penn State Altoona men's soccer returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, August 30, with a road game in New York facing Alfred University. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
