Beard Earns AMCC Player of the Week Nod
LATROBE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona senior Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford) was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in men's tennis, as the league office announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon.
Beard, the Lions' No. 1 singles and doubles player, had a dominant week for Penn State Altoona as the Lions went 2-0 last week in a doubleheader against AMCC opponent Carlow.
In Penn State Altoona's 7-0 victory over Carlow, Beard posted two 6-0 wins in singles and a 6-0 win in doubles. In the second game of the doubleheader, a 6-1 victory over Carlow, Beard won both of his singles matches with two 6-0 decisions and came away from his doubles match with a 6-1 win.
Beard is 5-2 overall in singles so far this season. In doubles matches, he holds a 4-3 overall record.
This is Beard's first Player of the Week award this season and the third of his collegiate career.
Penn State Altoona men's tennis is 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the AMCC so far this season. The Lions will play their next game away at Waynesburg on Tuesday, March 17.
