Lions Lose AMCC Championship Match to Behrend

ERIE, Pa. - The No. 2 seed Penn State Altoona men's tennis team's 2025-26 season came to a bitter end on Sunday afternoon, when the Lions suffered a 4-1 loss to No. 1 seed Penn State Behrend in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship match at Westwood Racquet Club.

Behrend (17-4) will advance to play in the Atlantic East conference championship on Sunday, May 3, for the joint AMCC-Atlantic East championship. Following Sunday's match, Lions seniors Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford) and Emmett Hibbs (Richfield, PA/East Juniata) were named to the AMCC's All-Tournament team for their performances during the league playoffs.

Behrend scored the day's first point by earning a 6-4 win in the No. 2 doubles match and 7-6 (7-3) victory in the No. 3 doubles match. Behrend proceeded to secure wins in the No. 3, 4, and 6 singles matches to get the championship to decision, 4-1. Penn State Altoona's lone point came in the No. 1 singles match, where Beard picked up his 14th singles win of the year with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-6 victory over his opponent.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis finishes its season with a 12-6 overall record, including a 6-2 mark within the AMCC that ultimately gave the Lions the second seed in the conference postseason tournament. The team's overall win total marked the fourth consecutive season that the program achieved double-digit victories.
