ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's volleyball closed out its home schedule for the 2019 season on Wednesday evening, falling 3-1 to non-conference opponent Juniata College in the Adler Arena.
Penn State Altoona (10-12) could not overcome an efficient performance by Juniata (16-4), which posted a .372 attack percentage as a team while racking up 68 points and 57 kills.
The Eagles won the match's opening set 25-14, but Penn State Altoona battled back to win an exciting second set 25-18. But Juniata came back during the third set to prevail 25-22, then wrapped up the evening with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set.
Brian Sheddy (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) led the Lions in kills with 14, and he also accumulated 11 digs. Dan Downs (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) added nine kills and three block assists, and Frank Perehinec (Altoona, PA/Altoona) finished with six kills while tying the match-high total for solo blocks with four.
Ben Beaver (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) put up a team-high 16 assists, as well as a match-high three service aces, while chipping in with four kills and two solo blocks. Jon Ramsey (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) contributed three kills and four digs.
Tyler Chan (Framingham, MA/Framingham) had a match-high 12 digs. Mirko Pandini (Greensburg, PA/Greater Latrobe) posted one solo block and one block assist, and Danny Dry (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) had 10 assists and four digs.
Penn State Altoona men's volleyball will return to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action this Saturday, March 30, when the Lions will travel to Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. to play a pair of matches. At 12:00 p.m., Penn State Altoona will face Penn State Behrend, and then the Lions will finish their day at 5:00 p.m. against Thiel.
