Men’s Cross Country Takes 19th at CMU Invitational

CLINTON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's cross country ran in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday morning at Youthtowne, and the Lions finished in 19th place by the conclusion of the 8K race.

Penn State Altoona posted a team score of 549 to rank 19th among a field of 19 teams that included a slew of Division II programs.

Division II Ashland University won the race with a score of 20 points. Host school Carnegie Mellon University was second with 95, and D-II West Virginia Wesleyan University placed third with 130.

Zach Halama came in 132nd place out of 190 individual runners, clocking in at 28:32.7 in the 8K. Brandon Lyle (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Ethan Schield (Roaring Brook, PA/North Pocono) had back-to-back finishes or the Lions, as Lyle crossed the finish line at 29:44.3 to earn 155th place and Schield recorded a time of 29:51.8 for 156th place.

Jordan Long placed 169th after finishing in 30:56.5, Aiden Pimentel (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) had a time of 32:36.9 to come in 186th, and Blaise Ventura (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) rounded out the Lions' squad with a 188th place finish and a time of 34:07.7.

Next up, the Penn State Altoona men's cross country team will head east to Gettysburg, Pa. to compete in Gettysburg College's Aubrey Shenk Invitational next Saturday, October 18 at 10 a.m.
