Women’s Golf Holds Fifth in Season Opener
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's golf team began its 2025-26 season at home on Sunday, hosting a field of teams for the first of its two-day Sinking Valley Collegiate Classic at Sinking Valley Country Club.
Penn State Altoona shot 458 as a team on the par 72 course to finish the opening round in fifth place out of five teams.
Saint Vincent College finished the first round of play atop the team leaderboard with 362, while Allegheny College was in second place with 371. Juniata College held third place with 383, and Mount Aloysius College was 410 in fourth place.
Penn State Altoona's lineup was led in scoring by Gabby Catalogna (Venetia, PA/Peters Township), who shot 96 to finish the round in a tie for 11th place out of 27 individuals. Alexis Peacock (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) carded a 98 to come in 14th place by the end of the round.
Clarissa Long (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was 23rd place by round's end after shooting 120. Alyssa Franks (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) rounded out the team by shooting 144 for 27th place.
Penn State Altoona women's golf wraps up its season-opening home tournament tomorrow, Monday, September 8, as the Lions host day two of the Sinking Valley Collegiate Classic. Monday's round is a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.
