Women's Golf Opens Invitational in Eighth Place

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's golf team hit the road to compete in the Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational today, placing eighth at the end of day one of the two-day tournament.  

The Lions combined to shoot 437 on the par 71 course. 

Carnegie Mellon finished the first round of play atop the team leaderboard with 303, while Wittenberg was in second place with 322. Westminster held third place with 332, Kenyon was 335 in fourth place, in fifth place was Allegheny with 342, Grove City finished the day in sixth place with 354, and Thiel was in seventh place with 399. 

The Lions' lineup was led in scoring by Gabby Catalogna (Venetia, PA/Peters Township), who shot 95 to finish the round in a tie for 34th place out of 49 individuals. Alexis Peacock (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) recorded a 109 to come in 42nd place by the end of the round.  

Alyssa Franks (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) was tied for 44th place by the day's end after shooting 111. Closing out the team, Clarissa Long (Altoona, PA/Altoona) shot 122 for 48th place. 

Penn State Altoona women's golf wraps up the Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational tomorrow, September 22. Day two of the invitational will begin at 9:00 a.m.
