Lions Place Eighth at Invitational
MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's golf team finished competing in the Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational today, hosted by Allegheny College at The Country Club of Meadville.
The Lions combined to shoot 410, a 27-stroke improvement over their first-round score yesterday. The Lions complied a two-day score of 847 on the par 71 course to finish eighth place out of eight teams.
Carnegie Mellon won the two-day tournament with a total score of 593, while Wittenberg finished in second place with 638. Kenyon moved up into third place with 660, Westminster finished with 667 in fourth place, in fifth place was Allegheny with 705, Grove City held sixth place with 711, and Thiel was in seventh place with 797.
Gabby Catalogna (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) was Penn State Altoona's top finisher in the tournament, tying for 30th place out of 49 total golfers. Catalogna shaved seven shots off of her Sunday score, firing 88 in Monday's round to total 183 across two days.
Alexis Peacock (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) placed 36th individually with a two-round score of 195, including her 86 on Monday which was a thirteen-shot improvement from Sunday.
Alyssa Franks (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) took 43rd place with a two-round score of 223, including carding 112 on Monday. Clarissa Long (Altoona, PA/Altoona) came in 48th place with a combined score of 246, after having a Monday score of 124.
Next up, the Penn State Altoona women's golf team travels to Cresson, Pa. to take part in the AMCC Women's Invitational at the Summit Country Club on Saturday, September 27. The round's start time is set for 10:00 a.m.
