Men's Wrestling Competes in Wilkes Open
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's wrestling team closed out 2025 competing in the Wilkes Open hosted by Wilkes University at Marts Center.
Three Lions took to the mats in Friday's tournament, with Tammar Reza (Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) competing at 125, Gonzalo Santana Hernandez (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) wrestling at 165, and Andrew Weaver (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) wrestling at 174.
At 125, Reza received a bye in the first round before facing John Green in the round of 16, where Reza lost 20-3 by technical fall. In the consolation bracket, Reza lost 3-0 by fall to Misericordia University's Phil Montes.
Hernandez's day began with a bye in the 165 bracket. In the round of 32, Hernandez lost by technical fall, 17-2, to Jose Lagunes. Dropping to the consolation bracket, Hernandez faced Misericordia's Jeremiah Ribeiro, losing 9-1 by fall.
Weaver had a bye in the first round of the 174 bracket. In the round of 16, Weaver faced Gavin Cole, losing 6-1 by fall. In the consolation bracket, Weaver competed against Scranton's Charles Kitching, losing by fall 3-0.
The next time Penn State Altoona men's wrestling will compete is Tuesday, January 6, 2026, as they travel to compete in the Keystone Tri-Meet, hosted by Keystone College. The tri-meet is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
