Trexler Impresses as Lions Blank Falcons
ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team got their first win of the season today against Cedar Crest, winning 3-0 at Spring Run Stadium.
Penn State Altoona (1-0-1) got started early in the game, with Kira Trexler (Martinsburg, PA/Central) passing a through ball for Ivory MoDavis (Bethlehem, PA/Southern Leigh) to score and give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute. The goal would be MoDavis' first goal of the season. In the 25th minute, Trexler would intercept a Cedar Crest (0-1) pass before crossing the ball into the box for Bridget Martin (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) to score her first goal of the season and make the game 2-0.
The Lions would maintain the same performance in the second half, restricting Cedar Crest to three shots, while putting forth 11 of their own. In the 80th minute, Trexler would score herself, dribbling into the box and scoring with the outside of her right boot to make it 3-0 for the Lions.
The Lions would ride their 3-0 lead for the rest of the game, keeping the Falcons off the scoreboard for the entirety of the game.
The Lions would finish the match with a 23-6 advantage in shots and 13-5 advantage on shots on goal. Goalkeeper Mya Torres (Culpeper, VA/Culpeper County) would keep a shutout, making five saves. The game would also be a clean one, with only 5 fouls being committed for both teams and no yellow cards being handed out.
Penn State Altoona women's soccer remains at home for their game next Friday, September 5, where they will face Bethany College. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
