Women's Soccer Ties Cougars 3-3
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team travelled to Pittsburgh today to face Chatham University, where they would tie 3-3.
Chatham University (2-2-1) would score the first goal of the game in the 11th minute as Hallie Marsalis would put the ball in the back of the net. Rachel Rutkowski (Canonsburg, PA / Canon-McMillan) and Penn State Altoona (2-1-2) would respond in the 38th minute to make the score 1-1, where it would remain for the final seven minutes of the half.
In the second half, things would open up offensively for both teams. The Cougars would apply pressure early on, before they would score their second goal of the game in the 63rd minute to make it 2-1. Not even five minutes later, the Lions would respond with a goal of their own through Kira Trexler (Martinsburg, PA/Central). Nine minutes later, Trexler would secure a brace, scoring another goal to make it 3-2.
Unfortunately, the Lions would not be able to hold onto the lead as Chatham would score their third goal of the game in the 82nd minute to make the score 3-3. Although both teams would create chances, the score would remain 3-3 for the rest of the game.
Junior goalkeeper Mya Torres (Culpeper, VA / Culpeper County) would get the start, making 10 saves throughout the game. Offensively, Trexler would have three shots on goal, while Rutkowski and Grace Turner (Stevensville, MD / Kent Island) would each have one shot on goal.
The Lions return home tomorrow to face the Juniata Eagles at Spring Run Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
