Women's Soccer Draws Redhawks in Regular Season Finale
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team traveled to face the La Roche Redhawks for their final regular season game. After an even game, Penn State Altoona and La Roche tied 1-1.
The first half would see shots, but no goals as the Lions (5-5-6, 2-2-4 AMCC) and Redhawks (5-7-3, 2-3-3 AMCC) each fired off six shots. Penn State Altoona forced four saves from La Roche goalkeeper Julianna Hornikel.
The second half would see more action and goals, as both sides pushed to get the winning goal. Penn State Altoona struck first through a brilliant Taylor Frederick (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) free kick.
La Roche had an opportunity to equalize in the 69th minute after Penn State Altoona conceded a penalty for a handball in the box. The Redhawks would come close, but goalkeeper Mya Torres (Culpeper, VA/Culpeper County) made the save to keep the score at 1-0.
With seven minutes remaining on the clock, La Roche broke through, scoring to make it 1-1. The goal would be the last major action of the game as it finished 1-1.
Up next, the Penn State Altoona women's soccer team will compete in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference playoffs, where they will face Mount Aloysius at Kelly Field. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
