Women’s Swimming Bested by Bearcats

LATROBE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swim team competed in its second dual meet of the season on Friday evening, when the Lions squared off against non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College in the Frank and Elizabeth Resnik Pool.

Penn State Altoona suffered its first loss of the schedule, falling 176-84 to the host Bearcats. The Lions recorded two first-place finishes on the night, both of which were individual wins by Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights).

Petry took first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:07.55, and later in the meet, she placed first in the 500 Yard Freestyle after clocking in at 5:45.34.

Penn State Altoona also secured several runner-up finishes.

Alexis Buchala (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) took second place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 12:13.38, and McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) was second in the 100 Yard Backstroke after hitting the pad at 1:06.61.

Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) came in second in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:42.49, and Petry added a second-place finish to her night after she finished the 50 Yard Freestyle in 27.12. Holl posted her second runner-up finish of the meet in the 200 Yard Backstroke, in which she earned a time of 2:22.56.

The Lions capped the meet with second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which the team of Holl, Petry, Ava Monborne (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria), and Coleman combined for a time of 1:48.97 to come in as the runner-up.

Next up, the Lions will travel to Westminster, Md. on Saturday, November 2, to take on non-conference foe McDaniel College in a dual meet starting at 11 a.m.
