Women’s Swimming Posts 74-21 Win at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team secured its second dual meet win of the season on Saturday, when the Lions triumphed 74-21 at non-conference foe McDaniel College in the Harlow Pool.

Penn State Altoona reeled in nine first places in the victory, with seven coming in individual swims and two in relay events. Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) and McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) helped lead the Lions' scoring efforts, as each swimmer had two individual wins while being part of one relay first place.

Coleman's first victory of the day came in the 200 Yard IM, in which she compiled a time of 2:27.44. She later won the 100 Yard Freestyle in 58.96.

Holl triumphed in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.38, and she later took first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke for her second individual win.

Coleman and Holl both partnered with Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) and Alexis Buchala (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) to win the final event of the women's meet, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, in a total time of 4:02.37.

Penn State Altoona opened the meet with a win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, in which the team of Julia Daley (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy), Ayva Harris (Monroeville, PA/Gateway), Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax), and Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona) combined for a time of 2:03.59.

Buchala posted a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:12.58, and Sponsler won the 100 Yard Butterfly in 1:08.33. Harris secured a victory in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, clocking in at 1:16.67.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's swimming will compete in its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference meet of the season next Saturday, November 9, when the Lions will head to Alfred, N.Y. to take on league opponent Alfred State College at 1 p.m.
