Women’s Tennis Gets Past Mounties, 4-3

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team got back to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play at home on Sunday afternoon, when the Lions eked out a 4-3 victory over league rival Mount Aloysius College at the Adler Tennis Courts.

Mount Aloysius (3-5, 2-1 AMCC) earned the first point of the match by winning two out of three in doubles play. But Penn State Altoona (6-1, 2-1 AMCC) rallied for the one-point win by prevailing in four out of six in singles.

The Mounties posted wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to start the day, with the Lions' duo of Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area)/Daniel Fulton (Milford, DE/Milford) providing Penn State Altoona's lone win of doubles in the No. 3 match, where they came out with a 6-0 victory for their fifth win together this season.

The Lions surged ahead by winning the No. 2 through No. 5 singles spots. Caitlin Blessel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys) got her third win of the season in the No. 2 match, nabbing a 6-2, 6-4 decision over her opponent. Colaianni moved her overall record to 7-0 this year with a tight 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) win at No. 3, and Sienna Fell (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) earned her fifth win of the fall with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in the No. 4 match. Abigail Morgan (Orrville, OH/Orrville) recorded her fifth victory of the season in the No. 5 singles match, in which she prevailed 6-0, 6-4.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis continues its three-date home stretch this Thursday, September 25, at 4 p.m. against AMCC foe La Roche University.
