Women's Tennis Bests Wildcats 6-1
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team traveled to face non-conference opponent Penn College today, where they beat the Wildcats 6-1.
The Lions (10-1, 3-1 AMCC) took the day's first point, winning three out of three in doubles play, then proceeded to win five of six in singles to hand Penn College (0-3) a loss.
Penn State Altoona would go 3-0 in doubles, winning No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 doubles. No. 1 doubles team Caitlin Blessel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys)/Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) would win 6-1, No. 2 doubles team Sienna Fell (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan)/Daniel Fulton (Milford, DE/Milford) would win 6-2, and Mara Del Valle (Colombia/Walt Whitman)/Ashylin Rodriguez (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) would win by forfeit in No. 3 doubles.
Then, in singles, the Lions would go 5-1. In No. 2 singles, Stricek would beat her opponent 6-1, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area) would win 7-5 in the first set before prevailing in the tiebreaker set 11-9. In No. 4 singles, Fell would beat her opponent 6-0, 6-2. Abigail Morgan (Orrville, OH/Orrville) would shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles. In No. 6 singles, Fulton would win via forfeit.
Penn State Altoona women's tennis returns home Sunday, October 5, to face conference foe Pitt Greensburg. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
