Lions Defeat Cougars, 19-16

DALLAS, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's wrestling team traveled east to compete against Misericordia University at Anderson Center Monday evening, when they defeated the Cougars, 19-16. 

The win was highlighted with victories for all Lions wrestlers.  

The dual kicked off with Naomi Nachmias (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) winning by technical fall over Penny Gomlak 13-2 at 3:35 to give Penn State Altoona an early 4-1 lead.  

In the 131 bout, Richele Reyes (Buckingham, UK/Alconbury) won via forfeit to add five points to the Lions' score. 

The Cougars would get a forfeit of their own in the 138 class, to close the gap to three points.  

Gianna Slusser (Raleigh, NC/Garner Magnet) competed in the 145-weight class, defeating Kailey Remish by fall at 0:36 to make the score 14-6.  

In the 160 class, Aliana Romero (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) won via medical forfeit against Grace Capoocia to make the score 19-6 in favor of the Lions. 

Misericordia University got two forfeits in the 180 and 207 weight classes as Penn State Altoona got a 19-16 win.  

In their next meet, the Penn State Altoona women's wrestling team will compete in the PA Collegiate State Championships on Saturday, January 24 hosted by East Stroudsburg University. The championships are set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
