Lions Compete in AMCC Championships

ALFRED, N.Y. - The Penn State Altoona women's wrestling team competed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships Saturday afternoon, hosted by Alfred State College.  

Gianna Slusser (Raleigh, NC/Garner Magnet) placed first in the 131-class; Naomi Nachmias (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) placed second in the 103-class; Richele Reyes (Buckingham, UK/Alconbury) placed second in the 124-class, and Aliana Romero (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) placed sixth in the 160-class.  

In the semi-finals, Nachmias faced Elmira College's Joycedeliz Rodriguez Santia, winning by decision, 5-0. In the final of the 103 bracket, Nachmias competed against John Carroll University's Taylor MacAdam, where she lost via fall 7-0 at 5:33.  

Reyes began her tournament in the quarterfinals, where she faced Alfred State's Alexis Haeusler. Reyes got the win, beating Haeusler by technical fall, 10-0 to advance to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, Reyes defeated John Carroll's Riley Duffy by fall at 1:57 to qualify for the first-place match. In the finals, Reyes faced Elmira's Megan Edwards, losing via fall at 1:12.  

In the 131-class, Slusser got a bye in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, Slusser faced Hiram College's DeJononae Rivers. Slusser defeated Rivers by fall at 0:51 to advance to the first-place match. In the finals, Slusser defeated Elmira's Kali Bailey by decision, 8-6.  

Romero started her tournament in the quarterfinals, facing John Carroll's Bella Cyrkiel. Romero lost via fall at 3:58 to Cyrkiel to move into the consolation bracket. In the consolation bracket, Romero got a bye in round one before competing against Hiram's Cicely Cullins. Romero lost via fall at 1:17 to compete for fifth place. In the fifth-place match, Romero faced Alfred State's Allison Strausbaugh, losing to Strausbaugh via fall at 0:27.  

Up next, the Penn State Altoona women's wrestling team will compete in the NCAA Super Region II tournament on Friday, February 20.
