Men’s Soccer Blanked at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team returned to the road on Saturday to continue its season-opening weekend of play, this time traveling to face Geneva College as part of the Nate Ferraco Classic at Reeves Field.

The Lions (0-2) were overpowered by host Geneva (1-0), and Penn State Altoona suffered a 7-0 loss.

The Golden Tornadoes built a 3-0 lead in the first half, when they got goals from Mike Rogers, Kyle Lapoure, and Collin Yeatts. Geneva tacked on four more goals in the second half, getting tallies from Carnel Kerr, Hogan Kern, Luke Main, and Paul Permyashkin.

Owen Myers (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) had Penn State Altoona's lone shot on goal, while Giovanny Furbino (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) and Trace Wenrich (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) also attempted shots for the Lions.

Sasha Mohoruk (State College, PA/State College) got the nod at goalkeeper and played the first half, making two saves along the way. Eli Slamka (Muncy, PA/Muncy) took over between the pipes for the second half and recorded three stops.

Penn State Altoona returns to action next Saturday, September 7, when the Lions will hit the road for Washington, Pa. to go up against Washington & Jefferson College. The start time for that contest is set for 3:30 p.m.
