Men's Soccer Falls to Yellow Jackets
WAYNESBURG, PA. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team hit the road to face non-conference opponent Waynesburg on Wednesday, where they would suffer a 7-1 loss against the Yellow Jackets.
Waynesburg (1-2) would draw first blood in the 16th minute as Zachary Johnson would score to make it 1-0 against the Lions. The Lions (0-3) would try to hold off the Yellow Jackets, but Waynesburg would break through again in the 35th minute with Matthew Serrano scoring a penalty kick to make it 2-0. The score would remain 2-0 through the halftime break.
Waynesburg would start the second half in strong fashion, scoring two goals in the opening 15 minutes to make it 4-0. Penn State Altoona would pull one back in the 60th minute through a goal by Gabe Deppen (New Cumberland, PA/Trinity).
Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets would answer back, scoring three more goals to finish the game 7-1.
Tyler Tardiff (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) got the start in net for the Lions and made 8 saves from 15 shots on goal in 84:55 minutes of work.
Colin Murphy (State College, PA/State College) had 2 shots on goal, while Matias Harte (State College, PA/State College) and Deppen both recorded 1 shot on goal for the Lions.
The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team returns home to face Washington & Jefferson on Saturday, September 6, at 3:00 p.m.
