Late Goals Cost Men's Soccer

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team traveled to compete in their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game today as they took on reigning champions Penn State Behrend. Although they had a halftime lead, they could not hold on, losing 3-1.

Penn State Altoona (1-7, 0-1 AMCC) would score the game's first goal in the third minute, through a Felipe Velarde (Panama / Colegio Real de Panama) pass to Jackson Conner (Selinsgrove, PA / Northumberland Christian). The goal would be Conner's first of the season.

Penn State Behrend would ramp up the pressure in the second half, looking for an equalizer. They would get their equalizer in the 71st minute, as discipline would again cost Penn State Altoona. Jac Caputo would score a penalty kick to make it 1-1.

From there, things would unravel for Penn State Altoona. Six minutes later, Evan Thomas scored a second goal for Penn State Behrend.

Penn State Behrend would follow their second goal up with another goal in the 80th minute, this time from Adam Thompson.

Velarde and Conner would each have one shot on goal for the Lions. Alejandro Monjarretz (Managua, Nicaragua / St. Augustine Preparatory School) would make three saves between the sticks.

The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team remains on the road for their next game, facing Pitt Greensburg on Tuesday, September 30. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
