Men’s Swimming Battles Behrend in Opener
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team faced off against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon in Adler Natatorium, where the Lions fell 161-100 to the visitors in the teams' season opener.
The Lions rattled off six first-place finishes as a team during the meet, with all of them coming in individual swims.
Penn State Altoona took third place in the meet's first event, the 400 Yard Medley Relay, where the squad of Pedro Teran (Allentown, PA/Parkland), Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools), and Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) combined for a time of 3:43.15.
Caden Traggiai (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) won the next swim, the 1000 Yard Freestyle, after clocking in with a time of 10:26.35. The Lions recorded another first place in the next event, the 200 Yard Freestyle, when Sun won with a time of 1:49.94.
Gabe Krizel (Allentown, PA/Parkland) was the Lions' top finisher in the next event, the 100 Yard Backstroke, after he posted a time of 55.74. Jackson Ketterling (Bismarck, ND/Bismarck) came in fourth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, sealing a time of 1:06.19.
Penn State Altoona notched its third win of the afternoon in the 200 Yard Butterfly, as Ben Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) hit the pad at 2:08.57 to wrap up first place. Adam Dotts was the runner-up in the next event, the 50 Yard Freestyle, with a time of 22.26.
Sun nabbed his second individual win of the day in the 100 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 48.65 for a first-place finish. Teran had the best finish in the next event, the 200 Yard Backstroke, when he took third place with a time of 2:03.42. Ketterling earned third place in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:29.00.
Traggiai racked up another individual win by placing first in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:00.64, and Ben Dotts prevailed in the 100 Yard Butterfly after he finished in 55.32. One event later, Dotts was the third-place finisher in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:16.21.
The Lions concluded the meet with a second place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, as Teran, Traggiai, Sun, and Adam Dotts came together for a time of 3:18.94.
Penn State Altoona men's swimming is back home next Saturday, November 1, facing off against non-conference foe McDaniel College in a 1 p.m. dual meet.
