Men's Swimming Wins Senior Day Tri-Meet
ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team competed in their last home meet of the 2025-26 season Saturday afternoon, when they hosted non-conference opponents Elizabethtown College and Juniata College.
Before the meet, the program recognized seniors Caden Traggiai (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) and Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) for their careers with Penn State Altoona men's swimming. Senior Day finished on a bright note, with the team defeating Juniata College, 164-92, and Elizabethtown College, 150-109.
In the meet, the Lions racked up nine first-place finishes and six second-place finishes.
In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the team of Gabe Krizel (Allentown, PA/Parkland), Adam Dotts, Ben Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), and Johnathan Bandy (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys) finished second with a time of 1:42.66. The team of Pedro Teran (Allentown, PA/Parkland), Jackson Ketterling (Bismarck, ND/Bismarck), Liam Fass (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley), and Mason Maroski (Markleysburg, PA/Uniontown) placed fourth with a time of 1:47.95
Traggiai was the top finisher in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, clocking a time of 10:23.95. Maroski also competed in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, placing fifth with a time of 12:16.26.
Following Traggiai's win, Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools) got a win of his own in the 200 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 1:49.39. Teran was not too far behind, placing second with a time of 1:49.53.
The Lions would get their third straight first-place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke as Krizel was the top finisher with a time of 56.64. Nick Trabucco (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs) also competed in the 100 Yard Backstroke, finishing fourth with a time of 1:01.73.
The Lions had two swimmers competing in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with Ketterling and Adam Dotts both competing. Ketterling clocked a time of 1:05.47 to finish third and Adam Dotts clocked a time of 1:05.49 to finish fourth.
Ben Dotts nabbed second in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:07.64, and Fass finished fifth with a time of 2:23.03.
One event later, Adam Dotts was the top finisher in the 50 Yard Freestyle, clocking a time of 22.45. Bandy and Trabucco finished in the top five. Bandy clocked in at 23.39 to finish fourth and Trabucco clocked in at 24.91 to finish fifth.
Sun nabbed his second top finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle, clocking a time of 49.17. Bandy was seventh in the 100 Yard Freestyle after finishing at 56.74, and Maroski was eighth after finishing at 56.79.
Penn State Altoona got another first-place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke after Teran finished in 2:03.20. Krizel also competed, finishing third with a time of 2:06.56.
In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Ketterling clocked a time of 2:27.21 to place second, while Trabucco clocked a time of 2:50.68 to place seventh.
Traggiai got his second first-place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle, after clocking in at 5:01.21. Also competing in the 500 Yard Freestyle were Fass and Maroski. Fass placed fourth with a time of 5:24.78, and Maroski placed eighth with a time of 5:51.76.
The Lions had two top-three finishers in the 100 Yard Butterfly. Ben Dotts finished as the runner-up after clocking in at 55.18, while Sun finished third after clocking in at 56.00.
In the 400 Yard Individual Medley, Traggiai got his third first-place finish, clocking a time of 4:27.51. Teran had a second-place finish in the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 4:29.28, and Fass took ninth place in that swim after hitting the pad at 5:02.32.
Rounding out the meet, the Lions had two teams finish in the top three in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of Adam Dotts, Bandy, Krizel, and Sun placed first after having a group time of 1:31.73. The team of Trabucco, Ben Dotts, Ketterling, and Traggiai placed third after having a group time of 1:36.81.
Up next, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team will travel north to face conference foe Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, January 31. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
