Lions Suffer Tight Loss to Behrend
ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team competed at the Adler Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon, where they lost a tight 4-3 match to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Penn State Behrend.
Penn State Altoona (10-5, 6-2 AMCC) recorded the first point in doubles, winning two doubles matches by scores of 6-3 and 7-5. Penn State Behrend (15-4, 8-0 AMCC) then won four out of six singles matches to win the match 4-3.
Ivan Bene (York, PA/Lancaster Country Day) and Wilhelm Grot (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) picked up a win for Penn State Altoona in No. 2 doubles, defeating their opponents 6-3 for their seventh win together. Jackson Newell (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) and Emmett Hibbs (Richfield, PA/East Juniata) got their fifth win together of the season following their 7-5 win in No. 3 doubles.
The singles matches were tightly contested, with four of the six going to an extra set. Bene got his eighth win of the season after his 1-6, 6-1, 10-7 win in No. 2 singles. In the No. 4 slot, Newell won 7-5, 6-2 for his 12th win.
Penn State Altoona men's tennis will compete in their final regular season match on Thursday, April 16, when they host non-conference opponent Lycoming. The match is set to start at 4:30 p.m.
